Ophelia M.
Chambliss will display "Big Pots Picasso Style,"
and many other paintings at Suite 3 Gallery in Camp
Hill throughout the months of July and
August.
(Camp Hill, Pa.) - Back by popular demand, abstract artist Ophelia M. Chambliss will make her second appearance at Hershey Philbin's Suite 3 Gallery located in Camp Hill, Pa. throughout the months of July and August. Chambliss, an artist based in York, Pa., will exhibit oil on canvas paintings, including "Big Pots Picasso Style" which represents a key transition point in her career. "The work displayed was created in 2000, this was the year I began to paint with a renewed passion. The same year I relocated 600 miles from my lifetime home and when I realized my mission was to express the human condition both visually and creatively," Chambliss said. Her painting style, which Chambliss refers to as "cubistic movement," is inspired from personal experience, events and human conditions. While she has worked with pastel, pen and ink in the past, recently her artwork depicts vibrant colors in oils and some recent experimentation in working with acrylics. Chambliss has recently been chosen by the YWCA to create public art to be displayed on the corner of Princess and Queen Streets in the heart of Olde Towne East in York, Pa. as part of the Community Renaissance Project. The art, which will consist of brightly painted collages on three steel panels, will each encompass a theme of history, beauty and diversity. The themes illustrate what surveyed residents found special about Olde Towne East. When finished, her art will be forever concreted into place and will coincide with the goal of the Community Renaissance Project: to create a safe, thriving place to live by drawing people to the neighborhood and strengthening pride among current residents. Chambliss currently has a show hanging at Studio Gallery 234 in York, Pa., but has exhibited her work in both solo and group shows from Chicago to Alabama. Chambliss is a writer and poet and has published a number of poems, short stories and creative writing pieces. She writes prose or poetry to accompany most of her paintings, and has incorporated her art and writing to be an educational tool for diversity training and awareness for children. She has worked as a professional designer, graphic artist, and Art Director in the educational publishing industry for more than twenty years. Originally from Chicago, Ill., she relocated to York, Pa. where she is most recently the Vice President of a publishing services company. She taught communication design at the local college, and works as a marketing and sales director and new product development for an educational publishing industry service provider.
