Website designed as a resource for architecture students The Harrisburg
Urban Studio construction products advisory
committee has launched a website that will serve as
an educational resource for architecture and
construction trades students. The site, www.nichenews.com/urbanstudio/construction_products.html, will link students to participating company's websites, enabling them to easily access specification and installation details on a variety of building materials. Several leaders from the Central Pennsylvania construction products manufacturing industry have joined Harrisburg Urban Studio's construction products advisory committee. This committee serves as an educational and mentoring resource to Urban Studio students as well as assisting in the process of obtaining proper building materials to use in future projects. Committee Chair Gillenwater is the manager of advanced projects for Carlisle SynTec Incorporated, a single-ply roofing manufacturer located in Carlisle, Pa. Gillenwater recently announced that Charlie Miller of Roofscapes Inc. in Philadelphia, Michael W. O'Conner of PDQ Manufacturing in Leola, Paul Chance of Inclinator Company of America in Harrisburg, Gary Graziano of High Concrete Structures, Inc. in Denver, Pa., Kurt Weber of Butler Mobility Products in York, Glenn Barrie of Camellian Playscapes in Collegeville, and Tom Myers of Lutron Electronics in Coopersburg have graciously volunteered their time and expertise to the Urban Studio's construction products advisory committee. Contact information for these individuals and companies and links to their websites are now available on the committee's new website. "We now have a group of dedicated professionals that are committed to helping the Urban Studio move forward," Gillenwater said. "This is a truly unique program that assists students in obtaining valuable practical experience while benefiting the Harrisburg community." The site will link students

The committees bring together professionals in the fields of architecture, engineering, construction management, and community relations. Urban Studio Task Force Coordinator Robert Philbin emphasizes the importance of such committees. "Design-build professionals are an integral component to the success of the Urban Studio" Philbin asserted. "They will serve as an invaluable educational resource for the students." Mayor Reed appointed Gillenwater as chairman of the construction products advisory committee in June 2005. Gillenwater recruited the variety of Pennsylvania manufacturers that now comprise the committee. Pennsylvania's leading architecture colleges will send students to study, design, and build in the Harrisburg Urban Studio. Urban Studio appreciates the number of architects, engineers, contractors and construction products firms that are actively supporting the project.
